It's time to identify new officers to lead FAPC.
Every January comes the question: Am I called to serve? And if not me, who?
This year Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church will elect 15 Deacons, 10 Elders, six Trustees to form the Officer Class of 2015. Each new officer will serve a three-year term. We will also elect five Members-at-Large to serve on the Nominating Committee.
Is this your time to serve the church -- or serve again? Do you know others in the congregation with the passion, skills and temperament needed to serve and guide the church in the years ahead?
The Nominating Committee is looking for your recommendations of qualified individuals for the Board of Deacons, the Session (Elders) and the Board of Trustees.
- Deacons serve as the care-giving arm of the church, working with the pastoral care staff in leading service projects and caring for members in needs.
- Elders work with the clergy and staff in exercising leadership, government, and discipline to nurture the spiritual and theological life of the congregation.
- Trustees are responsible for financial and business affairs of the church.
- Members-at-Large (individuals who are not currently serving as officers) join the Nominating Committee in selecting future candidates for office.
The individuals you recommend must be members of FAPC and have a desire to serve.
"Becoming an officer of the church is an honor as well as a privilege," says Emi Iwaida, Nominating Committee chair. "An honor because of the faith and trust that the congregation places in you, by putting the church in your hands. And a privilege because of the opoprtunity to serve God and this community."
Recommendations must be submitted by Tuesday, Jan. 31.
You may submit your recommendations online (download the form below and email to

The Nominating Committee will review all recommendations and submit its nominations to the membership at the 2012 Annual Congregational Meeting on Sunday, April 29.
