The Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church Archives is a repository where records of long-term value are organized, preserved, maintained and made available for research and reference. The Archives house materials and records generated by the church since its founding in 1808.
Research and Access Policies
The Archives is open to qualified researchers by appointment only. Those wishing to visit the Archives for non-genealogical research must apply for access by submitting a request to the Archivist at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Genealogical Research
All genealogical research is done by volunteer Archives staff. Archives staff can search church records for:
Baptisms: From 1808 to PresentBirths: From 1808 to Present
Deaths: From 1808 to (incidental to membership records)
Marriages: From 1868 to present
Membership: From 1808 to present
Note that death data is incidental to membership records only. Marriage record data may relate to both members and non-members when the marriage is performed at the church.
All Other Research
The Archives maintains a collection of past calendars/church bulletins; the VOICE (a 6-10 issues/year publication begun in December 1942); photographs; historical records of church organizations; data on its assistant, associate, and senior pastors, and on its staff, such as organists; sermons, both printed and in electronic format; pew records; and various other material concerning the history of the church.
Research Fees
Research fees are $40/hour, with a minimum fee of $10. As appropriate, postal and reproduction fees may be added to these fees. Fees are payable by check or money order prior to release of information.
Note that these fees are for the search itself and apply whether or not requested information is found. The all-volunteer staff will answer all requests as time permits. Please allow up to four weeks for a response.
