Be Part of Don’t Walk By
Don't Walk By is an annual "search and rescue" mission that reaches out to the homeless population of New York City on four consecutive Saturdays each winter. Don't Walk By volunteers seek to connect homeless individuals with local shelters and social services, while also providing food, clothing and other needed items.
For the fifth consecutive year, Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church is one of four anchor churches. Street outreach teams will direct homeless individuals and families to a resource fair at FAPC. Volunteers are needed to provide hospitality, serve a hot meal, provide clothing, offer medical treatment and offer other services to the homeless guests who arrive from the streets. Don't Walk By provides orientation and training to all volunteers.
Don't Walk By is sponsored by the Rescue Alliance NYC, a collaboration of faith-based organizations working together to restore the well-being of homeless men, women and children in New York City. Full details about this vital outreach program are available here.
To be part of a Feb. 17 street outreach team on the East Side, sign up here. Volunteers also are needed on Feb. 3, 10 and 24 in other neighborhoods in the city.
