Sacred Sites Open House

Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church participates for the first time in this annual event sponsored by the New York Landmarks Conservancy.

The theme for 2017 is "Stained Glass: Windows on This World and the Next." FAPC docents will lead tours that pay special attention to the stained glass windows of the Sanctuary (by John C. Spence, 1875) and Kirkland Chapel (G. Owen Bonawit, 1925).

The docents recently had a private session with Julie Sloan, a historic preservationist and an expert in stained glass, in preparation for Sacred Sites. Sloan consulted with FAPC's recent brownstone restoration regarding the cleaning and repair of our exterior, leaded-glass windows. She has assisted with historic preservation of stained glass windows at churches and public institutions nationwide, including Saint Thomas Episcopal Church and The Riverside Church in New York City.

Last year more than 8,000 visitors enjoyed the diverse architecture, art and history of 170 historic religious buildings throughout New York State. Additional information on this year' seventh-annual Sacred Sites program is available here.
