November 4, 2007: FAPC Opens Our New Gift Shop!
Be sure to stop in FAPC’s new gift shop after this upcoming Sunday’s services! The shop is located in the
hallway directly behind the Sanctuary. There are special items celebrating our upcoming 200-year anniversary. They include: logo lapel pins, baseball caps, tee shirts for kids and adults, coffee mugs, large canvas totes, a FAPC Christmas
ornament and two very special pieces: a custom designed (by one of our members) women’s silk scarf depicting our Fish and Loaves logo along with a 173-page hardcover book commemorating the church history, complete with never-before seen photos. Be sure to reserve your book or scarf in advance. If you would like more information about the gift shop or to volunteer, contact Mary Jo Keeble (mjkeeble@nyc.rr.com).
October 28, 2007: Aid for Fire Victims
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is responding to the string of wildfires raging out of control in southern California. PDA National Response Team members are offering spiritual and emotional care giving to the staff of the Pacific Presbytery and especially to the
congregation of the Malibu Presbyterian Church that burned Sunday night, October 21. One Great Hour of Sharing funds are also being made
available to help the Malibu congregation
continue their ministry and to help provide a humanitarian response to the community. Please continue to pray for all those living under the threat of fire, the courageous firefighters, the care givers and of those affected by the fires. You may respond financially by writing checks to FAPC marked “U.S. California Fires, DR000165”, and we will relay the contributions to PDA. Information on donating via credit card, phone or directly to the PC(USA) is available on this Website (www.fapc.org).
September 2007: Letter to the Congregation
Stephen Ministry
On September 11, Stephen Ministry training begins for a group of nine lay people from our congregation. Over the next few months our Stephen Minister trainees will receive extensive training in areas such as active listening, dealing with feelings, confidentiality, assertiveness, boundaries, using the resources of Christianity, and dealing with specific life crises. Following the training, these men and women will be
commissioned as Stephen Ministers, to carry out ministries of caring within our congregation. Please keep our congregation’s Stephen Ministry program, and particularly our trainees, in prayer during the months ahead.
Choir Changes
As of Homecoming Sunday, September 9,
9:30 am worship services will feature a soloist and a guest organist in lieu of a full choir. The Session’s Worship Committee, chaired by Elder Janeen Sarlin, asked Interim Pastor Roland Perdue to approve this change on Tuesday, August 22, 2007. This will be a wiser use of our resources at this time and give the earlier service its own character and ambiance.
July 23: PC(USA) Helps Katrina Victims
According a recent article in USA Today, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has sent over 29,000 volunteers to the Gulf coast to help relief and rebuilding efforts since Hurricane Katrina struck almost two years ago, which is the fourth largest group among 29 faith-based
organizations tracked. Our denomination’s Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has organized our effort and notes that over $8
million of the funds donated to the PC(USA) for the Hurricane Katrina and Rita response and
reconstruction have been invested in the
seven-year recovery effort to date, while the
volunteer hours given today would have a
monetary value of $20.88 million. PDA continues to work with the Presbyteries of Louisiana and Mississippi to assist with the long-term recovery.
To date, FAPC has contributed both funds and three mission work teams to contribute to the
recovery effort. In 2008, FAPC looks forward to sending three more mission teams to New Orleans and Pearlington, Mississippi. We thank you all who have been a part of this relief effort.

March 2007: FAPC Blog: Rocks and the Church Clock
"Stage Door" Is a Big Hit!
The Theatre Fellowship production, which ran in March of 2007, was recently featured in the Off Off Broadway Review. They wrote, "What does deserve merit is producing this play as an important episode in the history of 20th century American entertainment, and the Theatre Fellowship of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church has done so as a successful tribute to theatre as art. Art might struggle in the face of adversity, but this theatre company makes it seem easy."
Jacob Bolton Appointed

Relief Funds Needed
Since December a series of cyclones, with
accompanying heavy rainfall, has hit several regions of Madagascar and has caused severe damage. Some 293,000 people are expected to require assistance in the coming months,
including 33,000 displaced persons and 260,000 others affected by the loss of up to 80 percent of crops. If you are willing to contribute towards disaster relief through the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance program, please make a check out to “FAPC” and put “PDA” in the notes section. For more information, please contact Randy Weber (rweber@fapc.org).
