From Compass...

Who We Are

Our Mission Statement:

Compass is a group of mid-adult urban Christian professionals exploring together our spiritual and social lives through fellowship. Our group offers diverse activities, educational programs and outreach opportunities including retreats, museum visits, dinners, Christmas caroling, book clubs, wine tastings and monthly brunches. There are no dues and fees. Everyone pays his or her own way for events and outings.

Planned Giving Evening
Compass is planning an upcoming evening of drinks and socializing where Holly Hendrix of the Planned Giving Committee will be available to answer your questions about "planned giving." Have you ever thought about including FAPC as one of the beneficiaries in your 401(K)? Life insurance policy? Will? These opportunities are all different forms of planned giving. We encourage you to think about them in your
personal financial planning, and to contact Gretchen Grant for more information about the event (fapc_compass@yahoo.com).

Compass Dinner - April 24, Thursday
Join Compass for dinner at Josie's West, 300 Amsterdam Avenue at 74th Street. Its eclectic New American menu emphasizes healthy ingredients, reasonable prices, and above all, delicious food. The closest subway stop is at 72nd Street on the 1, 2, and 3 lines. check out Josie's website http://www.josiesnyc.com/josie_west/josie_west.html For more information. RSVP by contacting Gretchen Grant at grantmedia@yahoo.com.

Help Habitat for Humanity - April 26, Saturday
Join other Compass and FAPC members in a Habitat for Humanity "build" at its Atlantic Avenue project in Brooklyn. FAPC has an opportunity to send five people to this project, so if you're interested, please let Michael McAllister know as soon as
possible (MMcAllister@fapc.org or 212.247.0490).

As Habitat's website reports, "the Atlantic Avenue project is the largest — and one of the greenest — multifamily complex ever created by a Habitat for Humanity affiliate. It's rising on a long-vacant lot in Brooklyn's Ocean Hill-Brownsville neighborhood. Habitat broke ground in May, 2007 on the $13 million, 41-unit complex of affordable
condominiums, which will meet "LEED certification" — the highest standard of green building. This innovative complex is part of a national pilot program for green homes." For more information, check out Habitat's website at http://habitatnyc.org or contact Michael at FAPC.

Join FAPC's Mission Trip to New Orleans - May 1-6, Thursday-Tuesday
FAPC is organizing a group to go to New Orleans to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. It's taking place during the Jazz Festival, May 1-6, so you can relax with some great music after a day of wielding hammer and nails! There is meaningful work to do for adults of all ages and skill levels, so even if you are unable to do construction work, please consider joining the trip.

The approximate cost is $600, and scholarships are available. Applications are in the literature racks and online, and the deadline for applying is April 6. For more information, contact Debbie Mullins at deborramullins@worldnet.att.net or 212.239.1641.

Stay Informed of Compass Events with Yahoo Groups
FAPC Compass invites you to keep abreast of all Compass group outings and
volunteer activities by joining our Yahoo mailing list. You MUST sign up for the Yahoo group in order to receive the Compass monthly newsletter and updates. Here’s how!

1) Please send an e-mail request to the group's Yahoo list at FAPC_Compass-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

2) Please include in the subject line: "A New Sign-up"

3) Please also include the following in your e-mail:
a) your full name
b) a personal e-mail address (note: you may need to include a personal
e-mail address, as some employers prohibit accessing and receiving Yahoo
groups e-mails at work)

4) You may also include:
a) alternative contact information (phone or mailing address)
b) any other information about yourself you would like to share with Compass
(e.g. length of time with FAPC, interests, hobbies, suggestions for group
activities)

Once your e-mail request is submitted, a confirmation will come as an e-mail
invitation to join the Compass Yahoo Group. Thank you for your interest in
Compass. We look forward to sharing fellowship activities with you!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a part of the Compass Steering Committee? We are a fun fellowship group and are always welcome to new ideas and people to serve on the committee. The Committee meets once a month (usually the second Monday of each month) for a hour or so. Our meetings are filled with lots of discussion, laughter and we manage to get a lot accomplished as well! As a committee member, you are asked to “host” at least one event a year and co-host another one. If you want to hop on board or have any questions, please contact fapc_compass@yahoo.com anytime.
