Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church has begun a search for a director of Christian Education as Nathan Are prepares to step down at the end of the year.
Nathan joined the FAPC staff as the interim director of Family Ministries following the departure of Dr. Aram Bae in late spring of 2016. Since then he has led our Sunday School and Youth Group, coordinated Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival and other events, and served as staff liaison to the Family Ministries Committee of the Session. With the arrival this fall of Werner Ramirez as the director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries, Nathan's role evolved to encompass all of Christian education, from children to adults.
"Nathan has been a gift to Family Ministries and to the church at large," says Executive Pastor Charlene Han Powell. "He has guided us through a time of transition with grace and energy, and we will be forever grateful."
FAPC is now accepting applications for a director of Christian Education to provide leadership in faith formation for children, families and adults beginning in January 2018. "The ideal candidate will someone with a vision for faith formation across life stages and a passion for ministry," Charlene says. Details on this position (with instructions on how to apply) are available here.
"I have recently felt called to find what's next in my journey," Nathan says. "I don't know what exactly that will be, but I have some ideas, and it's time to step into those ideas and see where they lead. This isn't goodbye yet, but Dec. 31 will be here before we know it. Until then, I'll be grateful for every minute I have with the families I have come to know, and come to love, at this church."
