“Two Centuries of Service.” FAPC Celebrates 200 Years in 2008 You’ll be seeing a lot of the number “200” as Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church celebrates its bicentennial throughout 2008. Outreach mission trips with a participation target of 200 people are currently in the works in support of Hurricane Katrina relief and other worthy causes for the period May 1-6, 2008, and for October 4-11, 2008 And then there’s the fun stuff. Archival exhibits, church tours, hiking and outing events are already planned. Meanwhile, those looking for gifts and bicentennial memorabilia should visit our Gift Shop, where you can order a beautiful bicentennial scarf suitable for years to come. Former FAPC members who have gone into the ministry will be invited back to participate in a lively panel discussion on May 3. Join the Hiking and Outing Club and travel 200 years back in time on the streets of New York City. Go to the site of Cedar Street Church and follow our architectural journey north to the FAPC church sites, missions and chapels. Former officers from the Classes of 1950 to present will return for a reunion on September 6, followed by Homecoming Sunday the very next day. At the gala Bicentennial dinner at the Roosevelt Hotel on November 15, the capstone event of our bicentennial year, we anticipate having descendants and other relatives of our charter members and our senior pastors. With American Presbyterian roots reaching back to Scotland, why not consider a trip to Scotland during the period September 16-23? You can expect a great time traveling abroad with fellow FAPC members. An original bicentennial play will be performed in October, and historical music may be incorporated into Sunday worship services and special events as a way to explore FAPC’s rich musical history. On October 25, the Couples Club will be hosting Game Night, 200 years of games. On October 26, Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will preach. We also anticipate that the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) will preach on November 16. Each week, check our church bulletin for highlights of our church history over the past 200 years that occurred during the upcoming week. Finally, consider participation in the “200 Club,” a new stewardship opportunity whose participants will be honored for their commitments to keeping our church as vibrant going forward as it has been throughout the ages.
