Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church is one of 100 churches belonging to the Presbytery of New York City, which is part of Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) via the Synod of the Northeast. Our church contributes to the work of the Presbytery with both financial support and the time and talent of elders who sit on Presbytery committees or members who work in different areas of the Presbytery. Elders, called commissioners, are also designated to attend and cast their vote at Presbytery meetings.

In addition, FAPC is affiliated with the Covenant Network of Presbyterians and Presbyterian Welcome of the Presbytery of New York City.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), with denominational offices in Louisville, Kentucky, has approximately 2.3 million members, more than 10,000 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is distinctly a confessional and a connectional church, distinguished by the representation of elders — laymen and laywomen — in its government. The church has a membership of 2.3 million in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Currently there are nearly 11 thousand congregations, over 21,000 ordained ministers, 1,100 candidates for ministry and more than 94,000 elders.

Our Mission, as the Presbytery of New York City, is to embody God’s gracious love in Jesus Christ through our ministries, our congregations, our partnerships, our service and witness, and our common life together. As a manifestation of Christ’s body, we proclaim God’s Word and promote God’s justice to all persons and in all places, public and private, throughout NYC, striving to grow in faith and size so that all may hear and experience the Good News of Jesus Christ.

The Covenant Network of Presbyterians is a
broad-based, national group of clergy and lay leaders working for a church that is simultaneously faithful, just, and whole. We seek to support the mission and unity of the Presbyterian Church (USA) in a time of potentially divisive controversy. We intend to articulate and act on the church's historic, progressive vision and to work for a fully inclusive church.  Covenant Network was founded in August, 1997 to support the passage of Amendment (97)-A, the "Fidelity and Integrity Amendment."

Presbyterian Welcome
As followers of Christ, convinced by Scripture and the Reformed tradition, we envision a world as inclusive as God’s grace and a church where God’s call to service is affirmed in all persons.

Mission of Presbyterian Welcome

Presbyterian Welcome, a validated ministry, is a community of congregations and individuals in the New York area. Our mission is to build up and repair the Body of Christ by working for the full inclusion of all disciples, without regard to sexual orientation and gender identity. In being a resource for the church we aim to:

  • Provide leadership and education for the exploration of human sexuality in a theological framework;
  • Reform the Church constitution to remove barriers to inclusion;
  • Raise awareness, encourage discipleship and promote welcome in local congregations;
  • Witness to God’s faithfulness for those who face difficulty in responding to God’s call;
  • Join in partnerships with like-minded organizations to accomplish these goals.
