Worship at FAPC

At The Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, we praiseGod communally on Sunday mornings and in individual acts of service throughout the week, praying that all we say and do will give glory to God. Sunday morning worship takes place in our sanctuary which was designed with no right angles in order to convey God’s welcoming embrace. We gather with members, friends and visitors from around the world and after the Organ Prelude, we greet each other with the Passing of the Peace. We believe all Christians are Ministers of the Faith, and thus our lay leaders participate actively in worship, leading the congregation in the Call to Worship, Moment for Mission, and Offertory Prayer, serving as greeters, ushers and communion servers, and singing in our largely volunteer Bicentennial Choir. Our pastors lead the congregation in prayer, sacraments and the preaching of the Word. In the leadership of public worship, pastors intentionally use inclusive language.
Children are an important part of our worship life, and we welcomethem in Sunday worship. We offer regular children’s sermons, and our children’s and youth choir lead us in special seasonal music. Family Ministries also incorporates a children’s worship service into the Sunday school program that takes place during both services in our Christian Education Center on Sunday mornings.
From Homecoming Sunday on the second Sunday of September, through Memorial Day, worship services begin at 9:30 am and 11:15 am. June through Labor Day weekend, worship begins at 10:00 am. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month, and infant baptisms usually take place on the second Sunday of the month. During special liturgical seasons such as Advent and Lent, we hold additional services, such as a Tenebrae Service at 7:00 pm on Maundy Thursday, and a Good Friday service from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Throughout the week, the sanctuary and chapel are open for meditation and prayer.
We extend a warm invitation to any who would like to join us Sunday mornings for a time of prayer and song, thoughtful and engaging sermons, and warm fellowship as we worship God in Jesus Christ. We hope to see you soon.
