Jaime Staehle joins Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church on Feb. 4 as our new director of Christian Education. Jaime will lead both our Sunday School program (for children from pre-K through fifth grade) and Adult Education.
In her role, Jaime will report to the Rev. Werner Ramirez, associate pastor for Youth, Young Adults and Community Groups.
“It’s been several decades at least that this church has had a director of Christian education to lead our entire education program,” says Executive Pastor Charlene Han Powell. “Having an experienced professional such as Jaime on board enables Werner to focus on our youth and young adults. At the same time, our Family Ministries program will benefit from Werner’s ongoing pastoral leadership and Jaime’s exceptional skills as an educator.”
A native of Seattle, Jaime has worked full time in educational ministry for 13 years, serving congregations in Washington state and northern New Jersey. For the last nine years she was the director of Youth and Christian Ministries at First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell, New Jersey.
During his interview with Jaime, Senior Pastor Scott Black Johnston says, “she answered every question with creativity and wisdom. I like her story, her approach to education and her aspirations for our programs. I believe she will be a wonderful addition to Team FAPC.”
Jaime is a Certified Christian Educator in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and served as the POINT representative (Presbyterians Organized in Nurture and Teaching) for the Newark Presbytery. She is also a member of the Leadership Council of the National Association of Presbyterian Church Educators (APCE). She holds certificates in Biblical Studies from the Capernwray Bible School in Carnforth, England, and in Theology and Youth Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary.
“One of my favorite parts of working in Christian Education is seeing people of all ages discover God’s story through many different forms of learning,” she says. “I am thrilled to be joining the staff of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, and excited to share my passion for discovering God through lifelong education. I look forward to journeying through faith with all of you.”
Jaime is a lifelong Presbyterian who grew up at Westside Presbyterian Church in Seattle, where her father was on staff as the marriage and family therapist. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, Will, their two children, Summer and Mikyle, and the family cat, Marvin.
