Volunteer with the Newtown Creek Alliance

Water and mud are life-giving sources in the Bible, and to local ecosystems, communities, commerce and more. To tie in with the focus of the Fall Sermon Series, Holy Ground, Outreach Ministries has organized a volunteer opportunity with the Newtown Creek Alliance focused on an important natural resource within our local urban environment.

The Newtown Creek Alliance is a community-based organization dedicated to restoring and revitalizing this 3.8-mile waterway in Brooklyn and Queens. Volunteers will clean up around Penny Bridge in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to learn about the accelerated bloom rate due to global warming and to understand why water is vital to combating the urban heat island effect. Volunteers also will visit the green infrastructure nursery, where you will have an opportunity to purchase plants.

This event is limited to 20 volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation. Directions to our meeting spot near Penny Bridge will be provided.
