During the pandemic, we are creating weekly videos for families with children worshiping at home. You will find these videos on our YouTube playlist.
Sunday School classes meet for one hour every week, beginning at 9:30 am in the LaDane Williamson Christian Education Center.
Our preschool class goes through a series of Bible stories called “God Loves Me!” Each story includes activities and “wondering questions” that engage the children. Our preschool class also takes time for play time every Sunday.
School-age children (kindergarten through fifth grade) attend age-specific classes to help them learn at their level. Students interact with the Bible in every lesson. Under the guidance of trained, experienced lay volunteers, children navigate the stories and begin to compare what they learn to their own lives. We focus on hands-on learning, engaging kids in Bible lessons through interactive games, creative crafts and other learning activities.
Children’s Church is a separate and unique worshipping experience for our children (pre-K through second grade) that takes place during the 11 am service. The children begin their time of worship with their families in the Sanctuary. Early in the service, they are led downstairs during the Litany of Parting.
We use the Young Children and Worship model for Children’s Church. This is a storytelling method that encourages wonder while modeling a rhythm of worship similar to the service that’s going on upstairs. Through this experience, our young ones learn another foundational truth: We love God through worship.
What is the difference between Sunday School and Children’s Church? While both experiences are about learning Scripture, Children’s Church differs in that it focuses on teaching our young ones the meaning of worship in our lives. That means learning not only about God and Jesus, but also about the Church and Christian tradition. Children experience various elements of worship, such as prayer and giving thanks, in ways that help them understand the “whys” and not just the “hows.”
Our hope is that our children love going to church as much as we do, or maybe even more!
Children’s Choir & Youth Music provides opportunities for young people to express their love of God through voice and instruments. Choristers learn to read music, develop good singing habits and appreciate the many styles of sacred repertoire. Our children and youth are featured frequently in Sunday worship, but our biggest performances of the year are the Christmas Pageant, the Family Ministries Christmas Eve service and our Spring Concert.
We welcome all children and youth to celebrate God’s gift of music every Sunday at 10:15 am (right after Sunday School), with regular rehearsals from September through May. Our children’s and youth music ministry is under the direction of Dr. Eugenia Oi Yan Yau.
To ensure their safety, we require that all children participating in Sunday School or Children’s Church to be registered. You may register online, or on Sunday morning in the LaDane Williamson Christian Education Center.
